Outlook Express Email Client Configuration Instructions

Compatible Operating Systems: Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP

E-mail Account Set-up

Introduction

This will set up your computer to access your Integra Telecom email using Microsoft Outlook Express. These instructions will walk you through each step of the configuration to help the process move smoothly. It is recommended that these instructions be printed out and set aside for future reference.

Setting up

Close all open windows and running programs.
  1. Open Outlook Express. If there is no connection to the internet available at the time, just click on "Hide" for any errors.


  2. Click on Tools from the menu bar then select Accounts.


  3. Click on the tab labeled Mail if it is not already in the foreground.


  4. You may see existing email profiles here. You can remove a profile by selecting it and clicking on Remove if the profile is not needed any longer.


  5. To add the new profile, click on Add and then select Mail.
    The wizard begins:

    Your Name
    In the Display Name field, type a name that you would like to have appear to the recipients of email that you send, then click Next.

    Internet email address
    Type in your email address (i.e. address@integra.net), then click Next.

    E-mail Server Names
    Leave POP3 selected as incoming mail server type.
    In the Incoming mail (POP3) field, type "pop.integra.net" (without quotes).
    In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field, type "smtp.integra.net" (without quotes)*.

    *If you are not using Integra to connect to the Internet then you need to use your connectivity providers SMTP server.

    Click Next.

    Internet Mail Logon
    Enter in your email account name (i.e. address.integra.net) and password.
    Leave the check mark in the Remember Password box.
    Do Not put a check mark in "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)".
    Click Next

    Complete Configuration
    Click Finish.


  6. If you are prompted for any other information, use your best judgement until you get to Finish.


  7. Click Close on the Internet Accounts window to continue using Outlook Express.

Conclusion

Now that the information has been entered into Outlook Express, you should be able to send and receive email without error. If you would like to add another email address to use the same Inbox, just start at the beginning and work through the steps.

E-mail Identities Set-up

Introduction

This will set up your computer to access another Integra Telecom email using Microsoft Outlook Express' Identities feature. These instructions will walk you through each step of the configuration to help the process move smoothly. It is recommended that these instructions be printed out and set aside for future reference.

Setting up

Close all open windows and running programs.

It is assumed that there is already an account profile configured into Outlook Express, if there is not skip to step 5 and work through the wizard. When completed start at the beginning of this instructional to add the next Identity.

  1. Open Outlook Express.
    (If there is no connection to the internet available at the time, just click on "Hide" for any errors.)
  2. Click File from the menu bar, go to Identities then select Add New Identity ...
  3. Type a name for the new Identity in the Type your name: field and click OK. If you would like to password protect this Identity, put a check in the box to Require a password, enter the password twice and click OK.
  4. When asked "Do you want to switch to "identity" now", click Yes.
  5. The wizard begins:

    Select Create a new Internet mail account (if neccessary).

    Your Name In the Display Name field, type a name that you would like to have appear to the recipients of email that you send, then click Next.

    Internet email address
    Type in your email address (i.e. address@integra.net), then click Next.

    E-mail Server Names
    Leave POP3 selected as incoming mail server type.
    In the Incoming mail (POP3) field, type "pop.integra.net" (without quotes).
    In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field, type "smtp.integra.net" (without quotes)*.
    *If you are not using Integra to connect to the Internet then you need to use your connectivity providers SMTP server.
    Click Next.

    Internet Mail Logon
    Enter in your email account name (i.e. address.integra.net) and password.
    Leave the check mark in the Remember Password box.
    Do Not put a check mark in "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)".
    Click Next

    SMTP Setup
    Make sure your new email account is highlighted and click the Properties button. Click on the Servers tab and underneath Outgoing Mail Server, make sure "My server requires authentication" is checked. Click on the Advanced tab and for Outgoing mail (SMTP) change the 25 to 587. Click Ok.

    Complete Configuration
    Click Finish.

    If you are prompted for any other information, use your best judgement until you get to Finish.

Conclusion

Now that the information has been entered into Outlook Express, you should be able to send and receive email without error. To switch Identities, click File and select Switch Identities. To manage Identities, click File from the menu bar, go to Identities then select Manage Identities. To correctly exit Outlook Express click File and select Exit and Log Off Identity.


Configure POP E-mail Request Interval

  1. Click on the Tools menu and choose Options.
  2. On the General tab under "Send / Receive Messages," make sure "Check for new messages every" is set no lower than 5 minutes.
  3. Click OK.
