Who would have guessed that the rough-and-tumble life in a fraternity would someday lead to an empire in rugged, industrial doors and safety gate products?

PS Doors, a Grand Forks company founded by Jim Satrom, has become an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of specialized industrial doors. Satrom's experience with doors began while at the University of North Dakota, where as a student with handyman skills, he was often asked to repair damaged fraternity door latches and jambs. This experience, along with a Ford panel van, would later enable to him start his own garage door service and repair business.

Satrom founded PS Doors in 1974 primarily as a distributor and service provider for commercial and industrial doors. But within just a few years, the lack of suitable solutions for custom application doors for the power generation industry led PS Doors to begin designing and manufacturing their own products.

It's led to a long line of industrial applications-Satrom calls them "problem solving products"-including solutions for mining, malting, paper, food processing, material handling, trucking, manufacturing, military, agricultural, and refining. PS Doors staffs its own design team to develop doors and safety gates specifically for unique industry applications.

Integra Telecom has been the service provider for PS Doors since 2001, but proved invaluable during a migration to a new phone system last fall. "Without Integra's help in preparing for the new system, we might still be in the installation phase," comments Kimberly Dorneman, office administrator for PS Doors. "Their knowledge and know-how, from Integra's sales staff to their engineers, made this transition work for us."

With customers throughout North American and growing markets like China, Vietnam, Europe and South America, reliable telephone and internet connectivity is crucial to PS Doors' daily business. Marketing Director Cory Melland says, "Helping us to be operational with our new phone system was just part of the equation. Integra's day-in and day-out reliability is what makes this relationship work."
